There’s a new two-year college in Massachusetts, and it’s only open to first generation college students. Messina College, established by Boston College, is a unique residential school for low-income students who will be the first in their family to receive a college degree.

The school’s inaugural class is made up of 110 students who will study on the Brookline Campus of BC.

Newly appointed Dean of Messina College Erick Berrelleza, S.J. says. “As a first-generation college student, I didn’t have people to talk to about applying to college or navigating college life. Serving as dean of Messina College will enable me to provide access and vital support to students who are often facing that same uphill battle. Messina College is grounded in Boston College’s academic excellence, student support, and caring faculty.”

Students who fulfill degree requirements will hold an associate’ credential that will seamlessly transfer to any of Boston College’s bachelor’s degree programs.

Boston College, the parent university of Messina College, has been ranked among the top 40 national universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Recently, Forbes included Boston College in their list of schools they called “the new Ivies”. Here at CVO, we highlighted the university among the Best Catholic Universities in the USA.
