John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois is launching a new program in hospitality management. The Associate’s in Applied Science degree will prepare students for a range of jobs in the hospitality industry, including restaurant management, event management, and tourism management.
Community college Professor Erik Beckman said the program couldn’t come at a better time with the region’s growing tourism industry: “Hospitality management entails restaurant, hotel management, golf club management, wineries, breweries–you know, the fun stuff.”
Before they can join the fun, students will have to do the work in the classroom, which consists of more than 60 credit hours of coursework. Once enrolled in the two-year program, they’ll take a range of major-specific classes like:
- Hospitality Facilities Management
- Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
- Restaurant Service & Sales
- Service Management in Hospitality
Students will also participate in experiential learning opportunities, including an internship.
John A. Logan College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. The school was recently highlighted in our ranking of the Top 50 Online Colleges for Nursing Degrees.
