Montclair State University Adds Virtual Reality Program in Character Education, Thanks to $1 M Grant

Thanks to a generous grant, Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey is developing a unique virtual reality program focused on character education and development. The initiative has been dubbed “Planting the SEEDS of Character Growth: Developing Civic and Community Responsibility through Ethical Inquiry Using Virtual Reality”.

The curriculum for the program is centered around five core values, which together, make up the SEEDS acronym:

  • Social Justice and Equity
  • Educated Citizenry
  • Engagement, Agency, and Leadership
  • Diversity and Intercultural Competency
  • Self-discovery and Self-care

Junius Gozales, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Montclair State said, “Montclair enthusiastically supports and empowers students to become citizens of the world who demonstrate a commitment to the public good through ethics and empathy. The coursework in development through the Institutional Impact Grant will only strengthen the efforts of the SEEDS curriculum, designed to help our Red Hawks develop the skills necessary to tackle society’s biggest challenges.”

Montclair State University has been named one of the top 100 public schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. All academic programs offered through Montclair State University are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
