There’s a shortage of K-12 teachers in North Carolina, and Wake Technical Community College is doing its part to fill in the gap. The school is offering a convenient and affordable pathway to elementary teacher licensure through a new partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
The new program, called Cultivating Carolina Classrooms, is an accelerated option for students who already have a bachelor’s degree but still need a teaching licensure to qualify for employment in the state’s public school system. Students enrolled in the program will take just six classes and have their teaching license within just 18 months.
Director of K-12 Education at Wake Tech, Dr. Ileetha Groom says, “Many new teachers transition from other professions. Our new program will prepare them by focusing on literacy, STEM, and classroom management skills. We work closely with the local school system to ensure our program integrates with school mentoring as well as local and state requirements.”
Interested students can learn more about the program requirements at the school’s official website.
