University of Maine Guarantees Admission for Community College Graduates

The University of Maine is making a grand gesture to community college graduates—it’s guaranteeing their admission to all campus universities within the U of Maine system. This will make the process of transferring from a two-year to a four-year school seamless for students who desire a bachelor’s degree.

President of Maine’s community college system David Daigler says, “I think one of the immediate attractions to a student is that it’s guaranteed admission. We jointly counsel them, we work with them, we make sure that they’re on track, and they can at that point, opt in … to get direct admission to a university. And then when they graduate from the community college, they get a letter of acceptance from the university.”

Students who successfully complete their community college programs will no longer be required to jump through the typical hoops to transfer to university, including time-consuming applications and expensive fees. Instead, they can simply enroll and start attending classes.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the University of Maine among some of the top national universities in the United States. Here at CVO, we recently highlighted the school in our ranking of the 30 Most Affordable Online Graduate Certificate Programs. All academic programs at the university are accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education.
