NorthWest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville, Arkansas is unveiling a new program in practical nursing for students enrolling this Spring. The program, which is designed to be completed in just one year, is a response to an increased need for nurses in the area.

Dean of the health professions division at NorthWest Arkansas Community College Mark Wallenmeyer says, “We try to listen to our industry partners’ needs and offer what programs we can use to better help the workforce in Northwest Arkansas. This is one of the needs that we have heard from the community. The practical nursing program will fill a necessity as the Northwest Arkansas population grows and the health care needs grow.”

The need for nurses is not limited to Arkansas. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for licensed practical nurses are growing faster than average nationwide.

NWACC is the largest community college in the state of Arkansas. It’s accredited by The Higher Learning Commission, and its nursing programs are separately accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

Interested students can find out more about the program and submit an application on NWACC’s website. Applications must be submitted by July 31, 2024.
