If you’re a resident of North Carolina, you have a reason to celebrate today, and that reason is free community college. Thanks to the state’s new scholarship program, eligible students interested in earning a two-year degree can do so at any of the state’s 58 community colleges at no out-of-pocket cost.
More and more students in North Carolina and beyond are considering community college as a more affordable alternative to a bachelor’s degree, so the announcement is timely.
The NextNC Scholarship is available to any student who qualifies for the Pell Grant, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
President of Carteret Community College (CCC) Dr. Tracy Mancini had this to say about the state’s new scholarship initiative: “With the Next NC Scholarship, no one should feel as though a college education is financially out of reach. The college’s excellent faculty and staff look forward to helping new and returning students move closer to their career goals and dreams through a high-quality educational experience at Carteret Community College.”
Students interested in earning a four-year degree may qualify for half off tuition at one of North Carolina’s 16 state universities.
Applications for the NextNC scholarship are open now, and students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. You can learn more about the program on its official website.
