To expand access to the law profession for local students, four Mississippi universities have announced the availability of an accelerated law degree program. These universities include Mississippi State University, Mississippi College, Jackson State University, and the University of Mississippi.

As a result of the new program, students will now be able to complete their law studies in just six years, compared to the previous seven. Essentially, students will combine the last year of their undergraduate program with their first year of law school, eliminating the need for a seventh year.

Mississippi College President Blake Thompson said, “This new partnership between MSU and MC Law allows us to better serve Mississippi by pairing our state’s largest land-grant university and its only capital city law school. The arrangement offers a tremendous benefit to the students of both institutions, and it will help to keep our brightest future lawyers in the state.”

There is currently a demand for lawyers, not only in Mississippi, but throughout the nation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted a faster-than-average growth rate of 8% for this occupation between 2022 and 2032.

Meanwhile, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Mississippi College among the top 200 law schools in the country.
