Laredo College in Laredo, Texas is offering eligible students free tuition, thanks to $3 million in state funding. The Palomino Pledge program will cover the full cost of tuition and fees for qualifying students pursuing either a degree or certificate.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Full-time attendance
- In-district residency
- Completed FAFSA
- Satisfactory academic progress
These eligibility requirements must be met prior to August 15, 2024 in order for students to enroll tuition-free for the Fall semester.
Funding for the program comes from House Bill 8 that passed last year. It is the first of its kind for Laredo College.
Laredo College President Minita Ramirez said, “The No. 1 reason why people don’t go to college is because they don’t think they can afford it. Now that’s not an issue, and it’s completely off the table. We are here to support everyone the best we can to anyone who wants to learn. Whether you want to come back to school, are a new student out of high school or a continuing student, everybody is going to get the support, and we’re going to make it happen.”
Laredo College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Niche has ranked the two-year school among the top 5 community colleges in the state of Texas.
