A fully online BSN degree program is coming to Columbus State Community College. The new distance learning bachelor’s degree is intended to fill a local shortage of healthcare workers, particularly nurses.
CSCC’s chief healthcare strategist Kirk Dickerson said, “Ninety-three percent of our students who have graduated at Columbus State said they would like to stay with us to be able to complete that bachelor’s degree. So it was kind of a no-brainer for us that this was going to be the next step. They’re able to stay somewhere where they’ve already been successful…They don’t have to learn a new learning management system. They’re able to step right in and seamlessly continue their classes and complete their education.”
There’s currently a need for approximately 2,000 new nurses in the central Ohio area. Nursing jobs are in demand across the country, though. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this occupational field is growing faster than average and is expected to expand by 6% by 2032.
Columbus State Community College is institutionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. Its nursing programs are separately accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
The school was recently highlighted in our ranking of the 50 Best Online Colleges for Nursing Degrees.
