Are you looking for the best online accounting degree, without breaking the bank? In this article, we highlight the 100 most affordable accredited online accounting degree programs based on tuition and fees. While some online-only schools made the cut, most schools in this ranking are traditional brick-and-mortar colleges with established business and accounting departments. Not surprisingly, many among those with the lowest costs offer in-state tuition, so you’ll need to be a resident to get the rates listed here. Still, more than 30 schools feature tuition and fees of less than $10,000 per year. So if you are wondering how to become an accountant via an online accounting degree for the equivalent of about $800 per month, you’ll find plenty of options here.
In today’s economy, affordability is a key factor when choosing which college to attend. The accounting discipline embraces this mindset. Money is important, and savings is critical when embarking on a new career. While traditional pathways to become professional accountants are available, programs are not always budget-friendly. It makes mathematical sense to explore available educational options to find the most affordable online accounting degree program.
The first step toward saving time and money on education is to find a cost effective, reputable, and convenient accounting program. Accredited institutions offering online accounting courses will provide more of a return on investment than non-accredited colleges. School size is also of importance. Smaller class sizes, even when delivered in an online format, provide lower faculty to student ratios, and ultimately facilitate a better learning environment.
Below are the criteria we used in selecting the 100 Most Affordable Online Accounting Degree Programs. Over 200 schools and branch campuses were analyzed that met the following parameters:
• Accreditation – Only accredited schools offering bachelor’s degree programs in Accounting, Accounting and Business/Management, and Accounting and Finance were examined.
• Affordability – Undergraduate tuition as listed by NCES Navigator.
• Distance degree option availability – Schools with distance learning options in Accounting and related fields.
• Undergraduate population – 3,000 or fewer students.
After criteria were synthesized, the schools were listed in the order of affordability, based on the most recent tuition rate from the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Science, National Center for Education Statistics (NCES Navigator) for the 2014-2015 school year. The tuition rate is the estimated expenses for full-time beginning undergraduates. We used in-state tuition rate if it was available. The rate does not include the cost of books and supplies. Be sure to contact the institution directly to obtain the most recent tuition rate.
