About the University of Wisconsin-Stout

The University of Wisconsin-Stout originated in 1891 when State Senator and Dubuque native James Huff Stout opened the Stout Manual Training School for domestic sciences. After his death in 1911, Stout Institute was acquired by the State Legislature. During Dr. Fryklund’s 1950s tenure, it became Stout State College and managed by the Board of Regents. In 1971, the University of Wisconsin-Stout name was adopted upon joining the 13-member system. By 2007, its 45-building Menomonie campus by the Mabel Tainter Center was deemed Wisconsin’s polytechnic university. One decade later, the School of Engineering had $2.5 million donated from late Phillips Plastics Corp. founder Robert Cervenka’s family. On February 17, 2020, the University of Wisconsin-Stout will undergo its next mid-cycle assurance review by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (HLC-NCA) to continue Level V accreditation through 2025 under its seventh chancellor, Dr. Bob Meyer, who received the Nelva G. Runnalls Research Recognition Award. Located 339 miles southeast via Interstate 94 in Chicago, this mega 19-state Upper Midwest accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to determine the academic fitness of Stout’s 72 degrees and 54 certificates. University of Wisconsin-Stout Application Requirements

Enrolling at the University of Wisconsin-Stout is labeled “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 2,809 of the 3,267 Fall 2017 applicants were triumphant for 86 percent acceptance. First-year Blue Devils must graduate high school or achieve a General Education Development diploma. The College of Science, Technology, and Engineering suggests four years of STEM secondary courses. The Applied Psychology M.S. requests Statistics and Research Methods prerequisites. Construction Management M.S. cohorts need 2+ years of experience or Associate Constructor certification.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout reviews incoming freshmen from September 1st to January 1st yearly. Undergrad transfers meet priority deadlines of November 1st for Spring or March 1st for Fall starts. The Graduate School has diverse program-specific cutoffs though. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, the University of Wisconsin-Stout is charging resident undergrad tuition of $315 per credit or $4,728 per term. Non-resident bachelor’s majors pay $580 per credit or $8,711 full-time. The Midwest Exchange Program lowers costs to $426 per credit or $6,398 by semester. Living at the Dunn County campus’ dorms like Wigen Hall adds $1,940 to $2,840.
