About Trevecca Nazarene University

Trevecca Nazarene University is a private university affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. Established in 1901 as the Pentecostal Library and Bible Training School, it served as a training institution for Christians in the area. The school became the Trevecca College for Christian Workers a few years later and then Trevecca Nazarene College in 1934 after it became affiliated with that Church. It did not become Trevecca Nazarene University or TNU until the 1990s. TNU became affiliated with Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts in 2017, which allows students to use the resources from both campuses and to transfer between them too. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, TNU has a campus with more than 90 acres that is within walking distance of downtown. More than 3,000 undergrads attend TNU every year and come from nearly 30 religious denominations and more than 40 states. It has a graduate enrollment of more than 1,100 students.

Trevecca Nazarene University Accreditation Details

TNU has accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) for all the degree programs available through the School of Education. It also holds accreditation for the nursing program, which is offered in conjunction with Belmont University. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant and the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) awarded the university accreditation too. TNU students can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) because of the regional accreditation it has from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

TNU requires that all students apply online but does not charge an application fee. Students will then need to complete the FAFSA and send official transcripts to TNU. Undergrads need to submit transcripts that show they took and passed a minimum of 40 credits at another institution. The university requires a 2.0 or higher grade point average too. Students also need to show proof that they have some type of government ID. Those who do not have college credits can submit a high school transcript. An enrollment deposit of $200 is due by the beginning of May. Any student who wants to take classes in Tennessee will also need to provide their health and immunization records.

Graduate students applying to TNU need an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher and a bachelor’s degree, which must come from a school with regional accreditation. Students will also provide a copy of a government ID. The MLIS program is available with an endorsement only. To apply to this program, students need a valid teaching license and must provide a copy of that license. TNU also asks that they pass a background check and submit their fingerprints for testing. The MBA and other programs will accept students with a GPA of 2.75 or higher as long as they received scores of C or higher in their math and English classes.
