Lynn University originated in 1962 when Sacred Heart of Mary nuns formed Marymount College off North Military Trail to award two-year liberal arts associate degrees for Florida women. The next year, President Donald E. Ross welcomed an inaugural class of 90 to Carroll Hall. In 1974, it was restructured for coeds with an independent Board of Trustees as the College of Boca Raton.
