About Creighton University
Throughout his adult life, Edward Creighton, who was born in 1820, believed that there needed to be an institute of higher learning in his adopted town of Omaha, Nebraska, a city he had moved to from Ohio. As a businessman, with interests that included cattle, banking, and freight, Creighton knew that higher education would become increasingly important in the area. When he died in 1874, his estate passed to his wife, Mary Lucretia Creighton, who was known for her own works of charity in the area. Just four years after her husband passed away, Mary died and, in her will, left $100,000 as a memorial to her late husband that required a college be erected in his honor.
Bishop James O’Connor took on the task of starting the school that the Creighton’s envisioned. Edward Creighton’s younger brother, John, who had moved to Omaha in 1868 to work for his brother was now a successful gold miner in Montana. He married Mary’s younger sister, Sarah Emily Wareham and emerged as a leading figure in Omaha, organizing the Omaha Stockyard. John joined Bishop O’Connor in creating the school his brother envisioned along with the Society of Jesus.
The college opened on September 2, 1878 with five Jesuits, two lay teachers, and 120 students. John’s wife, Sarah, desired students to worship which resulted in the construction of St. John’s Collegiate Chapel, dedicated in 1888. The John A. Creighton Medical College was established in 1892 and was affiliated with the recently opened Creighton Memorial St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Today, more than 8,000 students attend Creighton University, one of just 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States.

Creighton University Application Requirements
Applicants to the Bachelor of Arts in Health Lifestyle Management must submit official high school transcripts and transcripts from any college or university attended. They must also submit a personal statement.
Applicants to the Master of Science in Bioethics must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and have a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as a current resume, three letters of recommendation and a personal statement. Official GRE scores and a Healthcare Bioethics essay are also required.
Applicants to the Master of Negotiation and Conflict and Resolution must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA. They must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended as well as a resume, two letters of recommendation, a personal statement and an NCR admission writing exercise.
Creighton University Tuition & Financial Aid
Full-time tuition for the Bachelor of Arts in Health Lifestyle Management is $39,630 per year. Tuition for the Master of Science in Bioethics and the Master of Negotiation and Conflict Resolution is $896 per credit hour. Financial aid is available and students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for loans, grants, and scholarships.
